Fifty Years of the Phyllis Schlafly Report: Johnson Amendment Recalls the "Determined Drive Against Churches"

The Founding Fathers recognized that the U.S. Constitution should not be easily amended. That is why they determined that amendments must pass both houses of Congress and be approved by three-fourths of the state legislatures, the most stringent majority requirement since the Articles of Confederation. This notion of a “living” constitution is a complete non sequitur to the actions taken by the Framers. Because of this great weight placed on the passage of constitutional amendments, there is an equally great weight placed behind the authority of amendments when they are passed. The authority of amendments is paramount to understanding the implications of what the Equal Rights Amendment would have done to the American system of government. Phyllis Schlafly understood this gravity better than most, which equipped her to write about the implications of ERA on religious freedom in the March 1975 Phyllis Schlafly Report.

NYC Launches PR Campaign For Islam

Radical Islamic terrorism is on the rise around the globe, and Americans are wondering what actions we need to take in order to ensure the safety of ourselves and those that we love. New York City is no stranger to this crisis. The Big Apple was the target of a terrorist bombing in its Chelsea neighborhood just recently. Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio has come up with his own plan to deal with the issue. His plan does not involve more police presence, public awareness campaigns to report suspicious activity, or any of the other steps that other cities have taken. His response was to spend taxpayer dollars to silence what he calls “negative rhetoric targeting Muslim communities.” The new campaign will feature posters reminding NYC residents that it is against the law to “discriminate against or harass” Muslims.

The Left Favors A Government Establishment Of Religion

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution begins by saying “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Those few words have been the subject of countless debates, and dozens of Supreme Court decisions. Some people on the Left believe that placing a nativity scene on the county courthouse lawn is a government establishment of religion. Those same people believe that putting a cross-shaped memorial to honor fallen servicemen on public property is a government establishment of religion. Most of us on the Right are starting to wonder exactly what does not count as a government endorsement of religion. Finally, the Left has given their answer. Mayor Bill de Blasio has launched a taxpayer-funded campaign to promote Islam in the Big Apple. The campaign includes pro-Islam signs around the city and special multilingual brochures to tell Muslims when they are being discriminated against.
