Truth in Black and White

Liberals are experts at taking very bad ideas and making them look very good. The issue of free speech on college campuses is an excellent example. After all, conservatives and liberals would generally agree that we do not like to see real hateful speech on college campuses. However, the liberal ideology uses that sentiment to muzzle free speech while the conservative realizes that curtailing First Amendment protections is not a real solution. The only true response to speech that we disagree with is to meet it with other speech of a differing viewpoint.

Hate Group or Hated Group?

University liberals and the truth have a tenuous relationship at best on many campuses. However, one liberal group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has gone so far as to call a conservative student group a “hate group” in order to remove the conservative voice from campus. The Student Coalition for Progress pushed a petition to label the school’s chapter of Young Americans for Freedom a “hate group” whose efforts “create a hostile environment on campus.” Of course, that could not be further from the truth. Young Americans for Freedom is nothing more than a conservative student group that seeks to share an alternative viewpoint on a predominantly liberal campus. They do this by hosting conservative speakers and debates about political topics relevant to students.

College Offers Course On Liberalism

We have known for years that public universities slip a liberal agenda into the coursework that they teach our young people. However, Ohio State University is now openly embracing this fact by offering a course which solely focuses on the liberal fallacies that have plagued Leftist academia for years. The course called “Crossing Identity Boundaries” has the express purpose of teaching students about so-called “social justice.” The term “social justice” is a favorite for liberals on college campuses. Social justice is based on the idea that some groups of people will always do better in life than other groups of people, regardless of how hard they try to succeed. This is also called “identity politics.” Of course, this concept is deeply flawed because it ignores the fact that America is the land of opportunity. Although some people may start out with more opportunities because of their parents’ prosperity, America is a place where hard work and ingenuity will allow anyone to succeed in the long run.

Celebrating Fifty Years of the Phyllis Schlafly Report: “Hard Hats” Still Beat “Soft Heads”

Phyllis Schlafly knew what it was like to work hard in college. She did not get through college with “privilege.” She got through college by working nights full-time at a munitions plant. Her job was to test the rifles and machine guns being sent to the boys fighting on the front lines in World War II. Simultaneously, she attended classes at Washington University in St. Louis, where she graduated with honors. Needless to say, she wasn’t exactly sympathetic to the plight of campus rioters and draft dodgers in 1970. However, what sets her apart from some of the other voices of the Greatest Generation is that she did not write off all youth as being beyond hope, either. That realistic optimism makes the June and December 1970 PS Reports exceptionally insightful and applicable to today.

A Sanctuary Campus?

In recent months, so-called “sanctuary cities” have been brought to the political forefront. They are cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration laws. San Francisco is one example of a sanctuary city. When city law enforcement refused to cooperate with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, a young woman named Kate Steinle was killed by an illegal immigrant who was freed. Now, liberal college students want to force their school to adopt sanctuary policies. A student group at Northeastern University called Huskies Organizing With Labor demanded that the school refuse to comply with any new immigration policies that President Trump may introduce.

Feminists Decry “Toxic” Masculinity

It’s no secret that men are under attack by feminists on liberal college campuses. Radical feminists have been saying for years that women don’t need men. They say that the two genders are exactly the same in every way, but now they are going even further than that. The feminists at Claremont College in Claremont, California hosted an event to tell men that masculinity is “extremely toxic to our mental health.” The forum featured a number of speakers who recounted the many ways that masculinity had supposedly wronged them. Their ultimate goal was to tell men that acting like men is harmful to themselves and others.
